We're now living in a suburb of Kansas City, MO and loving it. We bought a house and it's been really fun making this house OURS.
We are also expecting baby #4 so I've been doing quite a bit of crafting for said baby :)
Here are a few things I've made for the little coconut.
Just In Case it's a girl :)
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/7664150132/" title="Untitled by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8141/7664150132_0790141943.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Untitled"></a>
Baby's Take Home Outfit (I have plans to tea dye a white onesie and leaving it plain or with a #4 on it :) )
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/7654099636/" title="Untitled by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8149/7654099636_137b0981c4.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Untitled"></a>
And matching Hudson, because really, what's cuter than a baby in a Hudson hat?
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/7654098670/" title="Untitled by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8012/7654098670_bb22107220.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Untitled"></a>
A {really} crappy cell phone picture of the quilt that I sewed for Four. It's been so fun seeing my vision for the baby's room come to life. We painted its room two different shades of grey. One is called <a href="http://www.color-swatches.com/behr/sparrow/780f-4/swatch.html">Sparrow</a> and the other is D<a href="http://www.color-swatches.com/behr/dark-granite/780f-6/swatch.html">ark Granite</a>. I'm in love. (OH and by we, you know I mean Barry, right?)
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/7536872852/" title="Untitled by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8427/7536872852_51a63308d6.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Untitled"></a>
I have plans to sew a crib skirt made from the same woodgrain fabric that the binding is made from. I'm ridiculously proud of that quilt, it's my first ever quilt, and it turned out more than just functional. It's pretty cute too, the binding? Not pleased with that. But whateves.
I made two crib sheets for Four also.
I used the fox print from the Aneela Hoey A Walk In The Woods line

My first one, the white one, is a little wonky. But the 2nd one turned out much better.
I've LOVED having a sewing area set up, so when I do get a spare minute to sew my stuff is already out and I don't have to worry about lugging out my machine, thread, etc. It's all right there!!
I have high ambition to refinish my desk, but we'll see when that happens :)Christiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16813753431775447998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7656210346847262818.post-41894449744626941202012-02-18T08:26:00.000-08:002012-02-18T08:26:45.438-08:00Perry The Platypus!Hi! This is our version of a Perry The Platypus Valentine's Box! I loved how it turned out, and boy oh boy was my little man excited about it! He told all of his friends how he helped make Perry the Platypus. He exclaimed excitedly, "Daddy we have a new pet! It's a platypus, they don't do much." <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/s720x720/422650_10150597455388024_533368023_9120028_1375554375_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="478" width="720" src="http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/s720x720/422650_10150597455388024_533368023_9120028_1375554375_n.jpg" /></a></div><br />
He demanded 3 hearts on each side! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/426127_10150597456193024_533368023_9120032_1314749071_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="478" width="720" src="http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/426127_10150597456193024_533368023_9120032_1314749071_n.jpg" /></a></div><br />

Materials we used:<br />
<br />
Shoe Box (we used toddler size 13 shoes, and it was plenty!)<br />
Green/teal paper. I used 12X12 scrapbook cardstock. In retrospect a regular paper, wrapping paper maybe? would have been easier/better! But this was the exact color of Perry the Platypus!)<br />
Orange paper-this should be cardstock since it has to be stiff for his tail and beak.<br />
white paper/cardstock for eyes cut into 2" circles (use a 2" punch if you have it, or just cut it with your cricut!)<br />
small black hearts for pupils (since it was VDAY after all) and letters<br />
Small amount of yarn for hair<br />
<br />
First cover the box and lid in the green paper.<br />
<br />
Make a U shape for the beak/tail. Ours were the same size. Draw black diagonal lines on the tail and do it the opposite direction to make the pattern. <br />
<br />
Attach bill, tail and eyes to the box. <br />
<br />
You're good to go!Christiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16813753431775447998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7656210346847262818.post-55976818241203868712011-04-29T10:21:00.000-07:002011-04-29T10:23:37.279-07:00Ahhhhh!I'm so in love with these pictures. My BFF Stacy, as you probably know, is an AMAZING photographer. Her little guy's 1st birthday was in March, and she planned the birthday party so we could go! It was a Where The Wild Things Are party, and OH MAN, it was AMAZING! She asked me to knit this hat for her little Jackie, and of course I said yes! And decided to knit him a Small Things Romper for him too! In the pebble grey color, it just SCREAMS Max, to me anyway!<br /><br />Check out her little Jack in the outfit and hat I knit. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.stacyjacobsen.com/weddings/?p=1124#comment-807">Stacy's Blog</a>Christiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16813753431775447998noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7656210346847262818.post-86868678679533062011-03-05T07:45:00.000-08:002011-03-05T07:55:29.265-08:00A couple things!Owen turned 4 months yesterday! It's hard for me to believe that he's already that big! I mean he is smiley, and laughs, and drools! He's just such a delight! <br /><br />Here's his 4 month shirt. Believe me, I was tempted beyond belief to do another owl. REALLY tempted. But I resisted. The end result is cute!<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5499809164/" title="DSC_0061web by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5299/5499809164_c6c9213615.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="DSC_0061web" /></a><br /><br />Appliqued frog, and appliqued "4". Love it. <br /><br />Then I've been knitting away. My friend Shannon liked <a href="http://thewannabecraftymama.blogspot.com/2011/01/blessing-outfit-action.html">Owen's blessing outfit</a>. So I asked her if she wanted me to knit one for her son's baptism. He was born 8 days after Owen! <br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5499198933/" title="DSC_0011 by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5055/5499198933_a54e19c321.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="DSC_0011" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5499201747/" title="DSC_0013 by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5136/5499201747_b21240932d.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="DSC_0013" /></a><br /><br />(flash wasn't ready for this one!)<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5499203375/" title="DSC_0014 by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5051/5499203375_bd95a70152.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="DSC_0014" /></a><br /><br />I'm SO excited to see pictures of little Graham in this special outfit!Christiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16813753431775447998noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7656210346847262818.post-84873271127913784112011-03-01T08:21:00.000-08:002011-03-01T08:30:14.661-08:00Lucky Number 100!This is my 100th Crafty Post! That should mean something signifigant. Like a giveaway. or something. But I'm too busy! So look for a giveaway some day, in the near, not so distant, future! <br /><br />Instead of anything exciting, this is Gabe's 3rd Birthday Shirt. He had a <a href="http://lifewithboyspalizzi.blogspot.com/2011/03/why-hello-there.html">circus party</a>. It was SO fun! <br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5489370708/" title="Gabe's 3rd Birthday Shirt by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5060/5489370708_ffd0dd7e30.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="Gabe's 3rd Birthday Shirt" /></a>Christiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16813753431775447998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7656210346847262818.post-49635266885834237152011-02-14T07:54:00.000-08:002011-02-14T07:54:00.904-08:00Hooty-Hoot!Someone else likes owls! Yay! <br /><br />I met my friend Jill almost SIX years ago. And when I say met, I mean, online. In a forum for pregnant people. Wow. That was a long time ago. Her little girl is celebrating her FIFTH birthday in March, just like my Julian. <br /><br />Her niece is also celebrating her first birthday! So fun! I asked her if she wanted some birthday girl shirts, and she did. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5443987638/" title="DSC_0006 by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4076/5443987638_0062243e2b.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="DSC_0006" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5443989522/" title="DSC_0007 by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5260/5443989522_dfba92d72d.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="DSC_0007" /></a><br /><br /><br />We had a busy weekend. My wonderful husband painted my living room, so much crafting wasn't done. BUT I did manage to squeak out a camera strap cover! I've been lusting over those found on Etsy, and after some serious research (Ok just a random google) I found a fabulous tutorial! Saved myself $30! <br /><br /><a href="http://www.skiptomylou.org/2010/07/24/camera-strap-cover-tutorial/">You can find the tutorial here.</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5434235225/" title="IMAG0661.jpg by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5219/5434235225_0f14d5417d.jpg" width="299" height="500" alt="IMAG0661.jpg" /></a><br /><br />Sorry for the not so stellar photo, this was taken with my phone. <br /><br />I'm finishing up the last of the teacher valentine's tonight, so Julian can deliver them tomorrow. You do things other than knit?Occasionally. And I do mean occasionally. <br /><br />My friend Crystal's little girl is turning one! Crystal is a fabulous baker, and makes these delectable looking cupcakes. (She lives in Jersey so I've never actually tried a cupcake, but I can only imagine!)<br /><br />So I made this cute little cupcake birthday shirt! (The colors look awful. AWFUL, but I think it turned out pretty cute!)<br /><br />Black shirt, Hot Pink Polka Dot bottom and candle, White Minky 'frosting' and yellow flame!<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5376101125/" title="Lorelei's First Birthday Shirt <3 by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5049/5376101125_f6885df695.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="Lorelei's First Birthday Shirt <3" /></a>Christiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16813753431775447998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7656210346847262818.post-52386038587381174562011-01-19T15:17:00.000-08:002011-01-19T15:19:25.435-08:00Gabriel's Yellow ScarfI got this FABULOUS yellow scarf and hat for Christmas this year. I love it so much, and I wear it almost every day! <br /><br />Gabe, my fashion forward little guy, was jealous. Oh so jealous. I didn't finish it in time for her actual BIRTHDAY, but I was able to give it to her at her party! I wore them often for almost 4 years. Then they got a hole, simply from wear. Now it's not in a place that I can still wear the jeans. They are unfortunately, unwearable.<br /><br />They have silly, sentimental memories for me. I bought them with my sister-in-law. She totally talked me into them. And I loved them for years. And am currently DYING for another pair. {David Kahn if you're wondering} <br /><br />What kind of projects are there for old jeans. I can't throw them away. I don't need hole-y jeans sitting in my closet. <span style="font-weight:bold;">What can I do with them?</span>Christiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16813753431775447998noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7656210346847262818.post-66056969416648880642011-01-05T05:58:00.000-08:002011-01-05T06:35:08.653-08:00Drool CityNo project pictures yet. Obviously for my kids, they won't be so excited. But for other people?! Heck yes. My dear friend Elizabeth's birthday is coming up. I knit her this scarf!<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5315779339/" title="Elizabeth's Birthday Scarf by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5090/5315779339_f780ffd534.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="Elizabeth's Birthday Scarf" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5315781177/" title="Elizabeth's Birthday Scarf by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5123/5315781177_3ef7cb51c4.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="Elizabeth's Birthday Scarf" /></a><br /><br />January is a busy month for birthdays!<br /><br />Elizabeth is the 18th, she lives in WA though, so I will have to ship it.Christiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16813753431775447998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7656210346847262818.post-73913029017516132752011-01-02T07:44:00.000-08:002011-01-02T07:53:16.450-08:00Baby Owen's Blessing Outfit &heartsSo I've always wanted a handmade blessing outfit. ALWAYS. However, not knowing who to ask to make one, or how to go about doing it, I just went to Babies R Us and bought one. This time? I can knit! Hallelujah! So I decided to knit Owen's little blessing outfit. <br /><br />I'd been lusting over a certain pattern by SMSS. I decided it would be perfect for a blessing outfit, and went for it! I splurged on the yarn, and ordered much raved <a href="http://www.jimmybeanswool.com/knitting/yarn/Madelinetosh/ToshVintage.asp">MadelineTosh Vintage</a>. <br /><br />I was really nervous to cast on, for some reason. Well, a new cast on technique was one of the hindrances, which actually turned out to be pretty fabulous. (Provincial cast on for those wondering) <br /><br />It knit up perfectly, easily, the pattern was incredibly clearly written, and easy to follow. I couldn't be happier with the finished product! <br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5316341134/" title="Owen's blessing outfit by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5088/5316341134_e82109d95b.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="Owen's blessing outfit" /></a><br /><br />The darling little hat!<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5316342956/" title="Owen's blessing hat by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5008/5316342956_1c14a9ea17.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="Owen's blessing hat" /></a><br /><br />Button Detail<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5315751657/" title="Owen's blessing outfit by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5250/5315751657_065dde7d3c.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="Owen's blessing outfit" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5316346638/" title="Owen's blessing outfit by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5048/5316346638_6c60b8473e.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="Owen's blessing outfit" /></a><br /><br />Definitely a win! Every year I knit tons of gifts! And every year I do a dump post. Here's this year's post. Minus a bunch of gifts I forgot to take pictures of! DOH!<br /><br />Little Mice for my nephews, Brandon and Carter!<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5270980141/" title="DSC_0016 by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5047/5270980141_53497bc4f2.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="DSC_0016" /></a><br /><br />My mother-in-law swears that Brandon will just adore it! I have a baby due in about 6 weeks, but I'm really hoping he decides to come a little bit early. Not a TON early, just a little. <br /><br />Anyway, I have had some time to knit. I have kind of closed down knitting for other people, for a while, at least. And focusing on knitting for my baby, and my family, hey Iowa winter is COMING! And Christmas!<br /><br />Here are some of the things I've knit up for my baby, Owen!<br /><br />This yarn was knit by my super talented friend, Jennifer of <a href="http://hyenacart.com/DebutanteYarns/index.php?viewall=1">Debutante Yarns</a><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5016154528/" title="DSC_0006 by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4150/5016154528_b736642ffe.jpg" width="332" height="500" alt="DSC_0006" /></a><br /><br />Yummy Dashing Dach's Caribbean Goldfish! One of my favorite colorways<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5000188824/" title="Owen's Caribbean Goldfish Longies by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4113/5000188824_1d5f8eaee1.jpg" width="332" height="500" alt="Owen's Caribbean Goldfish Longies" /></a><br /><br />Unblocked Sheepy Longies...I think I'm going to add a sun to the bum.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5021722444/" title="Sheepy Longies Bum by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4091/5021722444_ae92f281d7.jpg" width="332" height="500" alt="Sheepy Longies Bum" /></a><br /><br />They also need a drawstring...but details.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5021723560/" title="Owen's Sheepy Longies by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4091/5021723560_37c6a01fdc.jpg" width="332" height="500" alt="Owen's Sheepy Longies" /></a><br /><br />I knit this pumpkin hat on the way to Mall of America over Labor Day weekend. It's Dashing Dach's pumpkin.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs411.snc4/47397_437227118023_533368023_5018962_6913401_n.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 431px; height: 720px;" src="http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs411.snc4/47397_437227118023_533368023_5018962_6913401_n.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br /><br />And those are all that I have a picture of! I have some hats I've knit, and I need to knit a matching sheepy hat. Thinking about a Hudson. I am test knitting a realllllly cute thing! And I have some gorgeous caribbean seas by Debutante Yarns to do also...sooo I still have a lot to do.<br /><br />Here is another crafty endeavor I've taken. I went to Joanns to get a wreath for our door. But all of them were way too decorated. So this is what I got instead. A grapewood (I think) wreath for $3. And then 4 $1 picks. I like it SO much more than the wreaths that Joanns had, and it was less than 1/2 the price! <br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/5020412661/" title="DSC_0001 by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4146/5020412661_4f0c8e1f35.jpg" width="332" height="500" alt="DSC_0001" /></a>Christiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16813753431775447998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7656210346847262818.post-38172941407106948352010-09-25T08:22:00.000-07:002010-09-25T08:23:36.737-07:00It's been a while....But here is something I whipped up this morning for a birthday party we're going to today. The birthday boy is (shockingly) 2! He goes 2 days a week for 2 1/2 hours. He loves it, I love it, it's really just perfect all the way around.<br /><br />For Christmas, I decided to knit them scarves. Here in Iowa, scarves are kind of a necessity. It's freaking cold!<br /><br />Here they are. I did a drop stitch scarf. Julian picked out the yarn, it's called <span style="font-style:italic;">crayons</span> which I thought was cute and fitting for preschool teachers.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lolacate/4193473842/" title="Drop Stitch Scarves for J's Teachers by Lola Cate, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2487/4193473842_f478b11842.jpg" width="500" height="334" alt="Drop Stitch Scarves for J's Teachers" /></a>Christiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16813753431775447998noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7656210346847262818.post-69600932563935223892009-11-30T12:10:00.000-08:002009-11-30T12:11:55.270-08:00Rebecca's Set, Part DeuxMy sewing machine and I?
